Four people lost their lives in Kenya's capital when security forces opened fire and employed chemical irritants to scatter enormous assemblies at a venue where political figure Raila Odinga's corpse was on public view.

Assemblies also occupied nearby roads and tried to enter the legislative building, where the government had initially planned the open visitation.

National Legacy and Community Devotion

Though mainly known as an government critic, Odinga served as head of government in 2008 and also struck a political pact with the leader last year in a political journey marked by shifting alliances.

He inspired passionate devotion among adherents, particularly in his Luo community based in western Kenya, many of whom contend he was prevented from obtaining the presidency by vote manipulation.
